Results and Impact | Working with journalists at the 5 local BBC radio stations in West Midlands, Karen Hunt and Maggie Andrews identified, shaped, researched, interviewed and were interviewed, reviewed and 'fact-checked' 100 new local stories about the diverse experience of the WW1 home front. We also did live interviews on local radio and were filmed by local BBC TV to publicise the project and to draw attention to particular stories. These stories remain accessible on the BBC WW1 at Home web pages. In addition the BBC organised roadshows on WW1 at home: we participated in Stoke (I day: public attendance 1250) and Wolverhampton (2day: 11,00 public attendance). The importance of the impact of the project was in re-balancing public and media perceptions that the war was just about the war front and to promote understanding of the diverse experiences of men, women and children; of different social classes; of different nationalities and ethnicities; and in different localities, of the home font and how it changed over time. |
