Can Civil Organisations Support Manchester's Older Adults to Remain Healthy, and Dwell in their Communities Despite Chronic Health Conditions?

Lead Research Organisation: Manchester Metropolitan University
Department Name: Social Care and Social Work

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyse the impact of devolution on older adults' living with chronic conditions within their community through a mixed methodological approach. I will follow an epistemological framework of interpretivism and the study will be in three stages (as below). The research will answer the following questions within a changing health and social care landscape in Manchester. What is the impact of Devolution Manchester on older adults' experiences of living with chronic conditions in their community? How equipped are health and social care professionals to signpost older adults to, and engage with community assets and initiatives that seek to reduce social isolation, promote wellbeing and enable people to remain in place? How effective are current policies in enabling older adults living with chronic conditions to age well in their communities independently?
