I am investigating the effect of dynamical friction (DF) due to a dark matter spike, on the motion of a black hole in the binary system OJ287.

Abstract

The adiabatic growth of the supermassive black hole in the binary system OJ287, 'dressed' with a dark matter halo, should theoretically coincide with the formation of a dark matter spike near the center. The secondary black hole is expected to interact with the DM particles via dynamical friction. We can simulate the orbit of the black hole numerically and introduce several effects to investigate their expected impact on the motion. We plan to compute the times at which the secondary BH crosses the accretion disk (this corresponds to the times at which the optical outbursts occur), with and without DF and compare. We plan to conduct this on python
