Abstract

The PhD is addressing the current health and well-being issues within the local community by bringing low SES groups to the table and co-creating the development of greenspace infrastructure. The proposal provides a unique opportunity to use an interdisciplinary approach to enhance the design, development and use of green space by ethnically diverse, low SES communities. This project will not only have a direct impact on children's PA behaviour this in turn will also help prevent the onset of obesity, cardiovascular disease and other public health issues which are highly prevalent in South Asian populations. Alongside dealing with inequality, in low SES and ethnic minority populations, that has been exasperated by covid. This stimulating research will help to create a healthier, fairer future for children and families across Bradford.

Four work packages are proposed. Work package one, the systematic review, will occur as the primary element of the masters course. The outcomes of the systematic literature review will underpin the three work packages and green space development within the PhD. All work packages have been developed to be sensitive to Covid through arms length data collection methods (WP1 and 3) and if required, virtual focus groups throughout the PhD process. Underlining the robust nature of the community engagement activity and online data collection methods, the JU:MP implementation team have continued to engage the community stakeholders using similar methods throughout the pandemic to date. A brief description of the work package, proposed method and participants recruitment strategy is outlined within each working package.
