Abstract
_"__As we face a full-fledged planetary crisis with countries locking themselves into "unreasonable positions' ' during negotiations, it is the young that are stepping up through their activism._
_It is young people that kept the 1.5-degree goal alive. It is young people who refuse our excuses when we, even in the face of overwhelming evidence, delay and dither on taking action to curb emissions and protect the environment"_
_-_ UN General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid
Currently, market-ready tools for children and young people to engage in foresights do not exist. Foresights and futures work is increasingly important to global policy discourse and business (the latter seeing more than 30% rise in profits) because of uncertainty about the future and the agility foresights processes enable.
This project aims to explore child, youth & planet centred tools that are innovative, interactive imagination-led that enable the voices and creativity of children and young people (CYP) in foresight work. We will explore playful interactions, engaging technologies and future reflections in this design process. our goal is to create a natural, empowering and new way for CYP to go through foresight processes while simultaneously creating a scalable way for organisations and policymakers to include CYP as critical stakeholders in their futures work. By focusing on foresight we hope to expand and reframe the range of plausible developments that need to be taken into consideration in design, strategic processes and boardroom decisions.
This work advances the UN SDGs in citizenship education (SDG 4) and climate action (SDG 13) by advancing CYP's exploration of the future and enabling their agency. It also advances partnerships (SDG 17) by demonstrating robust, multi-stakeholder mechanisms for collaboration with CYP. This innovative toolkit will further benefit CYP futures literacy, while foresights will unlock people, planet and commercial value creation for global organisations.
The market for this work is growing as the world prepares itself for the largest foresight process ever-envisioning the post Sustainable Development Goals Framework towards 2050\. Client surveys reveal that they are keen to develop multi-stakeholder foresights that include children and young people and confirm that toolkit development comes at an opportune time.
