TruColour Ltd Development of Prototype on-line Computer Display Calibration System for E-Commerce Market

Lead Participant: TRUCOLOUR LIMITED

Abstract

PC Monitors and other screens do not display colour consistently. As a result, there can be big
differences in the appearance of images displayed on websites when viewed by different
users. TruColour Ltd is developing the world's first colour correction system for PC monitors
that does not use external hardware or calibration equipment. The TruColour approach is
based on software that enables users totrust the colours that they see on screen. We have
identified E-Commerce as a key market that would greatly benefit from the TruColour
approach. Some of the key benefits are:-
- Reduced returns due to colour
- Reduced lost sales (most people do not return goods but simply
go elsewhere)
- Enhanced E-Branding leading to increased consumer confidence
leading to more sales
Whilst TruColour has proven the concept and built science based laboratory demonstators, it
now needs to build a functioning web based prototype in to prepare the technology for
commercial and to secure commitment to the technology from identified early adopter
customers.
The objectives of the project are thus the following:
1. To build a client/server Web prototype of TruColour’s technology
a. To quantify the efficiency of the different modules
b. To analyse the effects of a client vs server implementation for certain modules
c. To obtain a basis implementation for product development
2. To evaluate the prototype over a wide set of users and hardware settings,
representative of the real-world
a. To check our technology in the field as opposed to the lab
b. To understand issues surrounding a commercial roll-out
c. To measure the consumer feelings about the benefits of the system (increased user
awareness
as a side-effect)
