Abstract
My novel in progress (Welcome to Secularismia!) aims to explore how fiction can inspire
resistance against Islamophobia by employing three elements. It interrogates the potential of
choice-based fiction (as form), the second person point of view (as tool), and Augusto Boal's
Theatre of the Oppressed (as critical framework). Through experimentation and research, I am
developing and evaluating a literary form that focuses expressly on tackling oppression.
The thesis' creative component (novel) will comprise fiction written in this innovative form; the
critical component will delineate a canon of choice-based texts and include a reflection on my
creative process and output.
