UNderstanding the Molecular Activation of Stem Cells (UNMASC)
Lead Participant:
SUMMIT (OXFORD) LIMITED
Abstract
VASTox and collaborators at the MRC propose an innovative, high-throughput, in vivo screening programme to identify chemical modifiers of stem cell behaviour. Expected outputs include compounds which affect stem cell proliferation, differentiation and behaviour that can be applied directly to most regenerative medicine fields, including in vivo blood regeneration, ex vivo cell expansion and maintenance, and as bioactive factors on scaffolds. In addition, tool compounds, an enabling technology for basic research, will be identified and will be made available to the wider scientific community. Commercialisation will involve partnering with industry leaders in regenerative medicine technologies. The project will contribute basic knowledge to most areas of regenerative medicine whilst also contributing to the UK economy and research base, ensuring that we stay at the forefront of stem cell research.
