KATLAS-W3RH/B. Web3 Internet Router for Home and Business
Lead Participant:
KATLAS TECHNOLOGY LIMITED
Abstract
KATLAS (est-2019) is an ambitious UK micro-business at TRL3 with special expertise in transformative technologies, focused on developing cybersecurity software protocols for making privacy wallets an essential feature of Web3\.
Our innovation focuses on defining the specification for prototyping a Web3 router with cybersecurity software significantly richer than anything in the UK marketplace or in development, which will enable a game changing presence for individuals and SMEs to face the internet, to access a shared public infrastructure, a device that consumes minimal energy and does not require huge bandwidth and addresses the weakness of the 'immutable chain' model used by competitors to store private data in public ledgers, preferring instead to secure private data off-chain. Our software facilitates compliance-by-design through a consensual peer-to-peer (P2P) dialogue on a new serverless paradigm, where collaboration, ecommerce, reporting and decision-making are conducted via privacy wallets, with 3rd-parties replaced with equitable smart-contracts. Business models are distributed, enabling verifiable credentials to be exchanged with zero-trust, to automate essential functions such as a patient health or SME trade journey. Our Web3 router benefits include a low-cost and highly scalable entry point.
A router is the hub of an entire home network and 93% of UK homes have a WiFi connection. According to nvd.nist.gov, 506 router vulnerabilities were discovered in 2021, 17% of them critical.
Our Web3 router is powered by the CHERI/Morello board (Cambridge University) and our privacy-preserving software, whose seamless integration has been preliminary tested by KATLAS. This architecture represents an important cybersecurity differentiator as it offers additional guarantees that prevent potential data breaches. The new router will enable distributed business models with verifiable credentials exchanged with zero-trust.
Earlier attempts to build a Web3 router by competitors have had low level of utility and lack privacy wallet functionality (essential Web3 feature), precisely what our product innovation offers. If owning home nodes and business nodes becomes mainstream, then undertaking the development and commercialisation of this product has huge potential. Sales could potentially reach millions of units sold worldwide. The goal is universal participation by individuals and entities as nodes in P2P networks.
The proposed project is dedicated to engaging with Telecom stakeholders, delivering the prototype technical specs for its manufacturing, and a strategic plan for go-to-market.
