O-Wind Turbine Development Project
Lead Participant:
O-INNOVATIONS LIMITED
Abstract
O-Wind is the first truly omni-directional wind turbine capable of harnessing both horizontal and vertical wind simultaneously. By being a blade-less turbine, it is able to utilize turbulent winds, this makes it the ideal urban solution for clean energy generation; allowing for the creation of micro-grids that take pressure off the existing energy system. The turbine could help significantly lower carbon emissions created by the energy sector, allowing for people to generate their own clean electricity and helping to revolutionize the energy sector into a green and sustainable model. In those countries that do not have feed-in tariffs, the energy generated could be stored in a battery or fed into an internal circuit. O-Wind could also greatly help in countries where the energy supply is neither continuous nor reliable.
We are looking to work with Innovate U.K. to carry out a thorough R&D project building on our existing technical development to take this new technology towards commercialization, the funding injection will boost the activities of the company and allow for us to manufacture and pilot a series of prototypes that will help validate the technology and its performance in key target markets. This will help give O-Wind a global presence and make it a Great British exportable product. The long term success of the technology will boost U.K. manufacturing as it moves forward to mass production.
O-Wind aims to help individuals with their energy bills by creating a cost-effective and sustainable alternative for apartment residents; also presenting an opportunity to work with social housing trusts providing their tenants with O-Wind to aid in combating fuel poverty. O-Wind can become a key component of new development schemes for the modern towns and cities of the future. O-Wind is the 2018 national/ international winner of the James Dyson Award.
