Abstract
My project frames the relationship between architects and their communicative tools (drawings and models) as an 'autobiographical hinge'. I use object relations theory to explore the subjective realities that are otherwise latent between the architect and the medium in the production of conventional modes of architectural representation. This research forms the basis of a Creative Practice PhD in which I generate vignettes inspired by my own childhood during the Troubles in Northern Ireland constituting in an 'autobiographical house'; a transformative architectural model that hinges on my own subjective experience and the communicative challenges of architectural representation.
