Abstract
Drummer Television is a BAFTA and multi-award-winning TV production company focussed on factual and factual entertainment programmes for broadcasters including BBC, Channel 4 and BSLBT. Inclusion and accessibility are at the heart of all we do and 20% of our team are Deaf.
We are establishing a fully accessible Podcast department to open this medium to all audiences, specifically deaf and hard of hearing. We will film each podcast, and include a combination of subtitles, in-vision signing and transcriptions.
The funding will enable us to kit out a recording booth, research best practice for accessibility and produce a proof-of-concept podcast that we publish, and further develop ideas ready for future commission. The commissions will establish a new revenue stream for the company, both through producing stand-alone podcasts and those that can tie into potential TV commissions. We hope to inspire other podcast producers to follow these best practises that we establish and consider accessibility in their own work.
