ZELOcreative Limited, a North East based SME busy in the field of new product development intends to cooperate with Cullen Packaging who are a moulded pulp production company based in Glasgow. If the results of the research and prototype development are promising, then ZELOcreative will go into production with their new packaging solution for seeds which is an engineered seed package that comes with all the necessary nutrients required for successful germination with no waste, each ‘seed pod’ is made from a 100% recycled, nutrient enriched, paper/peat pulp case that houses the seed within. The development of the novel idea came to life as a direct response to the amount of waste discarded when growing vegetables, of which, most of the packaging is non-recyclable. The products it will improve product quality and performance and reduce disease of crop production.It is intended that the ‘grow-your-own’ market is the first market that the products will enter, with over 21.2 Million UK gardens and a shortage of allotments there is a large potential for education into food production within the £60m UK market alone, a market that is increasing year on year. The second initiative for the product is to help crop production when they will be sent out during natural disasters, the ‘seed pods’ will help alleviate the victims through the increased production and consumption of nutritious and health-promoting crops, geographically specific ‘seed pods’ will be designed to help the nutritional quality of the diets in effected areas.
