New solutions for energy reduction in the treatment of effluents from the p

Abstract

UK paper and food sectors generate large volumes of wastewater which is largely treated using aerobic activated sludge (AS). Companies with on-site AS treatment incur high aeration energy costs to ensure complete treatment. Strathkelvin Instruments has developed its ASP-Con instrument to minimise aeration energy yet meet consents, delivering ~30% energy savings in municipal AS plants. With specific niche market penetration, similar figures are achievable in paper and food sectors.
