Passwords made simple with pictures

Lead Participant: PIXELPIN LTD

Abstract

As more and more social and business interaction takes place using smart devices there is an increasing need for new ways to secure access to sensitive data.

Passwords have been in use for over 20 years – however they are still insecure, difficult to remember, tend to get written down and are vulnerable to key logging and hacking.

Alternative hardware solutions do not work well in a mobile environment.

PixelPin is an innovative new approach, using pictures as the security access mechanism. By basing security on pictures a far more secure means to logging in is achieved.

The concept is simple to understand. The security ‘key’ is a set of user chosen points on a user’s personal picture, the number and position of points selected by the user. Only by selecting the correct points on the picture, in the correct order, is access approved.

PixelPin Ltd relocated to Tech City in September 2011 in order to enable the rapid development of a range of Apps and services that can be user trialled using the IC Tomorrow Testbed ready for commercialisation.

PixelPin's mission is to bring a new breed of authentication products to market that are easy to use, secure and accessible to all.
