Novel Partial Hand Prosthesis for people with disability

Lead Participant: OPEN BIONICS LTD

Abstract

This is a project to fund an in-depth product co-design process with people with upper limb disabilities. The purpose is to co-create a novel and accessible device that will improve tens of millions of lives. This project will cover monthly co-design and engagement sessions ensuring the R&D process for this device is iterative, high quality, and driven by the community it seeks to serve. Monthly workshops will include the collection of quantative and qualitative data, design workshops, lab testing, and at-home testing.

The project will focus on people suffering from partial hand amputations whereby their upper limb mobility has been limited or is missing completely as a result of their condition. The project will be succesful if it can inform the product development process to ensure that any products that make it to commercialisation meet the needs of the end user.

The project will exploit and build upon existing novel IP owned by the company and build on this with opportunities for new IP to protect the design, control systems and manufacturing methods.
