Abstract
The global population is projected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, resulting in a substantial 63% increase in agricultural demand. To address this challenge, two key approaches have emerged: expanding land use and embracing cutting-edge technologies to enhance productivity through the deployment of machinery and streamlined processes. However, modern agriculture faces numerous obstacles, including land scarcity, labour shortages, and environmental concerns. Agricultural machinery plays a pivotal role in this evolving landscape, making it crucial to monitor and anticipate potential failures to prevent unexpected downtime, which can significantly impact crop yields and farm productivity, incurring substantial financial losses. Moreover, the agricultural sector is a notable contributor to harmful emissions, particularly in the UK, accounting for 69% of nitrous oxide and 48% of methane emissions in 2020\.
The IAPMS project presents an innovative digital solution to optimise processes in the agricultural sector by introducing an AI-powered high-value asset monitoring system with proactive maintenance and emission reduction capabilities. This project will leverage IVY TECH's existing ORiV(tm) system, elevating its importance across multiple sectors. ORiV(tm) is a modular and cost-effective next generation IoT system with a diverse range of sensors to capture data related to current, vibration, sound, temperature, and environmental factors of high-value assets. It incorporates an intuitive cloud-based solutions dashboard for user interaction, while the integration of AI enhances predictive maintenance and reduces emissions from high-value assets. This approach promotes timely, data-driven decision-making while simultaneously mitigating the environmental impact.
The IVY solution offers hardware, system integration, digital infrastructure, and various solutions, such as data management, user interfaces, and advanced analytics, all in a cloud-based framework. This holistic approach covers the entire solution life cycle, setting it apart from traditional isolated off-the-shelf options. Therefore, the proposed IAMPS project stands out in the IoT industry.
