5G Development of Smart Heating and Environmental Monitoring System

Lead Participant: OVON TECHNOLOGY LTD

Abstract

Ovon's smart heating system provides room-by-room control and saves you up to 30% off your energy costs. Traditional Radiator Valves do not provide accurate heating control. There are an estimated £9.5B unrealised annual savings in heating costs in the UK alone and 200M households globally with radiator heating that could benefit from Ovon's system.

Ovon's smart system comprises of a smart radiator valve featuring 4 year battery life and replaceable batteries, a micro-thermostat with full environmental sensing capabilities, an app supported by the latest in cloud technology, and a boiler controller capable of remote diagnostics. Ovon's system is supported by the latest in flexible cloud technology, tailored to what customer's need. A tiered access system provides engineers, managers and admins full access to the system, with permissions allowed at varying levels. This ensures diagnostics and problems are resolved quickly, while customer data is kept secure. We have developed our cloud system to be flexible and functional with automated fault detection and specific work flows for manager approval. By adding 5G functionality we are creating the world's first 5G room-by-room smart heating system.

Ovon's wants to make sure Ovon's products are accessible to the widest possible market to help council properties and homes with limited connectivity. We are creating 5G versions of our products, via a 5G gateway in our boiler controller, that are suitable for vulnerable households and council properties without Wi-Fi connectivity or IoT gateways. Our products will allow these users to save energy and money and ensure their building is in a liveable condition, with our boiler controller additionally detecting and preventing breakdowns and expensive repairs.

Future expansion after this project will include solutions targeted at residential home-owner customers with WiFi only versions of the products and a smart valve that features our patent-pending energy recovery system.
