Philosophical issues in genomics

Lead Research Organisation: UNIVERSITY OF EXETER
Department Name: Sociology and Philosophy

Abstract

Molecular biology is developing at a dizzying pace and suggests radical reinterpretations of some fundamental issues in our understanding of biology and life. This project aimed to make these developments more accessible to non-specialist and to explore some of their implications.
The project involved two major activities. First was the creation of a set of annotated bibliographies intended to provide a path into contemporary biology for non-specialist across the humanities and social sciences with is publicly available at both: www.centres.ex.uk/egenis/bibliodata/index.htm and www.genomicsnetworks.ac.uk/egnis/resources/databases
The second was a series of joint publications by prof. John Dupre and Dr Maureen O'Malley issues affected by recent biology evolution, and human nature.
