Development of innovative modular natural water treatment systems using advanced phosphorus control for use in new and existing swimming pool and water remediation applications . A proposal by Clear Water Revival Ltd

Abstract
Natural swimming pools (NSPs) offer an ecologically beneficial, low energy alternative to
chlorine-disinfected systems, while also providing ecological design opportunities that are in keeping with the natural environment. In particular NSPs contain no man made chemicals what so ever, can function year round with crystal clear water, require up to 10 times less pumping energy and can be heated up to 28 degrees.
There is a strong market need for such systems in the UK, EU & US, with consumers
becoming aware of the adverse health risks associated with chlorine systems, high chemical & electricity costs, and chemical build up in our natural environment.
Despite the clear environmental, user, and health benefits of natural swimming pool
technology, the global market uptake of NSPs is limited due to technology barriers.
The thrust of this proposal is to develop low cost and modular, natural (chemical free)
filtration systems, which are able to overcome these barriers and which will also address the shortcomings of chlorine pool sanitation.
The filter design has the potential to replace chlorine as the industry standard for sanitisation of new build and retrofit pool applications. Spin off applications include remediation of large water bodies (e.g. lakes) to remove algal blooms, and pollution control.
Aims and Objectives:
Using research and scientific papers to identify a potential shortlist of optimum filter media
To conduct scientific tests on a range of filter media to determine comparative non-biological and biological fixation of phosphorus
To optimise the filter system by testing optimum ratios of filter media volume to water
volume, the effects of chemical condition, temperature & flow rates on system efficacy and longevity
To design and test a range of scaled down modular filter designs in order to ascertain optimal functionality with minimum electricity
To develop a functional pool-scale basic prototype filter system
