Abstract
This project will critically analyse the new BBNJ treaty and assess whether it will, as intended, provide solutions to the crises facing marine biodiversity in the High Seas. First, the project will ascertain to what extent the BBNJ upholds and challenges the anthropocentric norms of international law. Second, it employs a posthuman feminist methodology that highlights the connection between international law, humans, and the more-than-human environment. By illustrating the deep interconnection between these aspects, the project will be positioned to assess the treaty's effectiveness at ensuring multispecies justice and offer holistic insight into opportunities for shaping its future operationalisation.
