Abstract
India
Description | The Rothamsted Research Executive visited several Institutes and Research Funders in New Delhi and then divided into two groups, with Maurice Moloney (MM), Keith Gould (KG) and Angela Karp (AK) visiting Hyderabad and Peter Shewry (PS) and Martin Parry (MP) visiting Meerut and Karnal. The details of these visits are given below, with outputs. There is no doubt that India will become a major power in research on crop improvement, and in particular in the application of genomics and other advanced approaches. The importance of wheat as a major crop in the UK and India will therefore provide unique opportunities to develop long term collaborations and partnerships, but these will depend on financial and personal commitments from both sides. The visit was the first step in enabling us to develop such partnerships, but identifying relevant partners and introducing ourselves and our research to them. Possible collaborations established with: NIPGR; TERI; ICAR; IARI; NRCPB; Meerut; Chaudhary Charan Singh (CCS) University (formerly Meerut University); Karnal, DWR; Hyderabad ICRISAT; CRIDA |
Sectors | Agriculture Food and Drink Environment Manufacturing/ including Industrial Biotechology |
Description | High throughput analysis of the wheat canopy for crop improvement |
Organisation | Directorate of Wheat Research (DWR) |
Country | India |
Sector | Public |
PI Contribution | The DWR at Karnel agreed to collaborate in a sLoLa. This visit involved a formal round table and presentations followed by tour of quality laboratory and informal discussions to develop outlines of joint projects. The institute has a strong, well-focussed programme of evaluating wheat lines under multiple environments covering the whole of the Indian wheat production region. Collaboration on a strategic Lola bid to BBSRC was discussed and agreed. |
