Expanding Horizons: Enhancing Accessibility and Inclusion in Aerial Arts

Lead Participant: AERIAL ALLSORTS LIMITED

Abstract

Aerial Allsorts, a thriving aerial arts studio in Plymouth, Devon, is thrilled to launch our new initiative, "Expanding Horizons: Enhancing Accessibility and Inclusion in Aerial Arts." Since its inception in 2017, we have expanded from offering a few lessons per week to about 50 programmes per week, serving a broad community of children, adults, and those with accessibility requirements. Our objective is to create a safe, inclusive, and professional environment for everyone to learn and enjoy aerial arts.

Our initiative aims to raise funds to acquire portable aerial equipment, allowing us to broaden our reach and deliver performances and seminars in places that are now unavailable due to structural constraints. This equipment consists of aerial rigs, crash matts and instructors. With this new equipment, we can offer aerial arts to community centres, schools, youth groups, outdoor areas, and other locations, greatly increasing accessibility and inclusiveness.

The portable equipment will allow us to organise showcases every six months, when our kids may perform routines for their friends and family, instilling a feeling of accomplishment and camaraderie. In addition, we want to hold taster workshops in schools, youth clubs, and community events to introduce Aerial Arts to new audiences while encouraging participation from underserved and marginalised groups.

Our initiative also involves targeted outreach activities. We plan to visit three summer fairs in 2025 and organise taster sessions for five different community organisations, including Girl Guides and youth clubs. These events will offer free, entertaining activities while encouraging physical fitness, creativity, and social contact. By establishing traceable promotion codes, we will be able to track the success of these events in drawing new students.

Aerial Allsorts is dedicated to developing inclusive programmes that accommodate a wide variety of abilities and fitness levels. Our experienced teachers will undergo further training to guarantee that they can tailor lessons to the requirements of all attendees.

We are convinced that "Expanding Horizons" will not only enhance involvement in aerial arts, but will also improve our community by delivering experiences that are accessible, inclusive, and pleasurable to all. With the help of the DCMS Create Growth Programme Competition 3, we hope to make Aerial Arts more accessible and spread the joy of movement and creativity to a larger audience.

Join us on this exciting adventure to make aerial art accessible to everyone and inspire the next generation of aerialists!
