Assessing the utility of the 2050 calculators as tools for decision makers on trade-offs and policies through an AFOLU and a smart land use lens.
Lead Research Organisation:
Imperial College London
Department Name: Centre for Environmental Policy
Abstract
Strategic Theme: Living with environmental change
Strategic Area: Operational research
Project Summary: This PhD will evaluate the contribution that the Calculators have made in climate mitigation policy development and their potential to influence future
mitigation policies and low carbon pathway implementation. It will focus on issues of energy access and associated land use / land availability / land use change impacts. It will answer questions such as: What are the key components and best practices for developing a country calculator? How important are energy access and land use / land use change drivers for low carbon transitions/pathways at the country level? and, How can this understanding best guide future calculator development / implementation?
