An innovative energy storage solution based around a pressure vessel

Abstract

e-Storage-Solutions, founded in October 2011 as a UK based limited company, focuses on the development of technologies that will enhance the reliability, accessibility and efficiency of energy storage, with the overall aim to make energy prices again more affordable and available to everyone. Meanwhile, any solution should result in a natural reduction of CO2 and focus on sustainable economic growth.Based on this mission, e-Storage-Solutions has most recently conceived a concept of energy storage in the form of a storage vessel, the e-Storage. The proposed solution promises a significant reduction in the required capital cost for energy storage and can be scaled for small or large storage capacities. The e-Storage, is in essence a pressure vessel with a double wall, which allows for a significant reduction in material, assembly and maintenance cost. The two walls for the e-Storage are made from composite material. e-Storage-Solutions has been working on storage solutions that are low cost and not limited to certain physical locations, like pumped storage systems. Pumped storage systems are known to provide a large storage capacity, but this comes at the requirement of about 20 years for planning and construction, not to mention that the Energy Research Partnership indicates that they cannot exceed an additional 400 GWh from the currently existing capacity of 1 TWh. Furthermore, their reliance on location restricts their spread and expansion. Even though pump storage has a number of disadvantages it is currently the most economic way to store energy, since other solutions like battery storage are not even close when one calculates the cost of energy per kWh generated from the storage. As a result of our development, we will be able to offer a competitive and viable alternative to pumped storage technology without its geographical limitations.
