Abstract
The creation of media content within the digital economy is skilled, technology mediated craft. Increasingly, the technology supporting this craft is likely to include data-driven decision making, often enabled by methods such as Machine Learning. Similarly, the people using this media content are also increasingly having their experience mediated by such algorithms.
This project will help ensure the effectiveness of and trust in these data-driven technologies by design and development of methods for ensuring that the algorithmic decisions are rendered intelligible to those people affected by them. The research approach is likely to include significant user-centred design and prototyping, and innovation in the relevant Human-Computer/Human-Data Interaction principles.
