PI Contribution | Organised and ran the Argentina - UK Wheat Partnership Workshop, at which nine early career researchers and six leaders from across the UK Wheat research community engaged with senior and early career academics from the University of Buenos Aires. Lancaster University facilities were also used to provide training on leaf gas exchange methods to a doctoral candidate from University of Buenos Aires. The meeting was attended by two senior academics and three early career researchers from Lancaster, who brought their experience in BBSRC funded wheat research and wheat physiology. |
Collaborator Contribution | Two senior academics and an early career researcher travelled to the UK for the Argentina - UK Wheat Partnership Workshop. They presented key experimental results and approaches used at the University of Buenos Aires, and represented the Argentinian wheat improvement community through discussion of sectoral and environmental challenges and opportunities in Argentina. |

Results and Impact | A return-leg workshop in Buenos Aires, hosted by the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) through Prof. Daniel Miralles. The meeting brought together UK researchers (Samuel Taylor, Lancaster University and Malcolm Hawkesford, Rothamsted Research) with c. 20 wheat researchers from a variety of agencies in Argentina to exchange research. In addition to in-person attendees, virtual talks were presented by Dr. Laura Dixon (University of Leeds), Dr. Rachel Rusholme-Pilcher (Earlham Institute), and Prof. Gustavo Slafer (ICREA, AGROTECNIO and University of Lleida). Research presentations were set alongside tours of facilities at UBA and a discussion session led by the UBA International Cooperation and Relations Department addressing funding opportunities for future collaboration. The networking activies successfully created links between Argentinian and UK researchers that will be followed up in 2024 with further exchange visits that exploit these connections. |
