Title | Gut feelings : young people and their experience of coeliac disease : verion 2 |
Description | Following the evaluation of the original DVD resource "Gut Feelings: young people and their experience of coeliac disease", qualitative feedback was incorporated into the development of a second version of the resource. This included the recruitment and filming of 4 young men with Coeliac Disease and the inclusion of scenarios and discussions covering additional issues such home cooking and cross-contamination. |
Type Of Art | Film/Video/Animation |
Year Produced | 2013 |
Description | Since the last submission the educational DVD developed from the grant has been for sale on Amazon. A very small revenue has been received as a result of this venture. However, a decision has been made to distribute the DVD to young people via events such as Gluten Free Food Fairs and the Allergy Show, and some positive feedback has been received. This dissemination of the material is an ongoing venture. Since the last submission, the DVDs continued to be sold on Amazon, but yielded very little revenue or interest. Therefore they have now been removed from sale. 50 of each DVD were distributed by the charity Coeliac UK at the Allergy Show in Glasgow in March 2016, free of charge, to parents and young people. The response was positive. This will be an on-going venture, with a further distribution of DVDs at the Birmingham Coeliac Food Fair in June 2017. |

Results and Impact | At least three PHSE lessons in Primary & Secondary Schools within the West Midlands have used the DVD to highlight the issues faced by young people living with Coeliac Disease. The DVD has been shown in PSHE lessons in schools within the West Midlands. One was shown to a Year 6 class at Priory School in Edgbaston, and two more to Secondary School pupils. These events were the result of dissemination activities including a presentation at a local volunteers group in Birmingham. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the DVD was highly informative about the condition, symptoms asociated with Coeliac Disease, diagnostic procedures and treatment through the gluten-free diet.
