Development of Image Based Multiphase Flowmeter

Abstract
iPhase is a small, specialized, company with extensive innovation expertise in the oil & gas
industry.
iPhase plans to develop a novel multiphase flowmeter for the oilfield with substantial
technical and marketing advantages over the current offerings. This document describes the
technical background and outlines the plan as far as proof of concept.
There are many applications of multiphase flowmeters in the oil industry for flows of gas, oil,
water and solids: downhole, wellhead, platform, subsea, wet gas, heavy oil, gas lift, tar sands
etc. The further upstream in the process the more complex and demanding the conditions, so
subsea and downhole are the most difficult, but in compensation the accuracy requirements
may be less demanding.
This project seeks to develop a multiphase flowmeter capable of the following:-
(i) non-invasive process
(ii) accurate assessment of the various flow phases (water, oil, gas & sand/mud )
(iii) integrating various technologies to provide cross-referencing
(iv) fully electrical (no nuclear sources)
(v) detailed imaging of flows across a pipe section
