NUAG National Records Service
Lead Participant:
NUAG NRS LIMITED
Abstract
The NUAG National Records Service (NRS) is designed to improve the exchange of buried asset record information as an integral part of the 5 million street and other works carried out in Great Britain (GB) each year. It is a web-based query system which enables Users to identify all Owners of buried assets in a specific geographic area and to easily request those records to ensure excavations are carried out safely and efficiently.
This project will trial the service in the London area inside the M25 motorway, followed by
implementation across GB and then into Europe. It is the first building block in an ambitious, long-term set of developments. Initially, NRS will revolutionise asset record information sharing and, ultimately, with the NUAG National Coordination Service (NCS), deliver worldleading services enabling significant business growth in GB and Europe.
Better information will enable:
• reduced societal costs, currently estimated at £5.5bn a year
• decreased third party damage costs, currently estimated at £150m a year
• lower operational costs for Utility Companies and Highways Authorities
• a reduction in unnecessary work with a positive impact on the environment and
• less disruption to the road network and the citizen.
Readily-available information will enable risks to health and safety to be properly controlled, leading to reduced risks to the safety of workers and the public.
The project is commercially-innovative: it applies globally-scaleable, leading-edge Software as a Service (SaaS) approaches to the service designed by, and for use by, all stakeholders. It is the culmination of six years’ unprecedented collaboration between all stakeholders involved in or affected by the issues and problems associated with street and other works in Great Britain. Linking together and making available existing information assets in this way will deliver significant value to all.
