Free Piston Engine
Lead Participant:
LIBERTINE FPE LIMITED
Abstract
Libertine FPE Ltd has developed an innovative engine-generator concept that will offer an estimated 37-47% fuel conversion efficiency at lower cost than existing technologies. The concept is a novel embodiment of a Free Piston Engine (FPE) that overcomes the control challenges of earlier FPE development. Farm scale biogas power generation is the first commercial application.
This programme will validate work on the linear generator design by Sheffield University and by Libertine FPE Ltd, and will address a number of other specific technical actions recommended by Ricardo in their due diligence and feasibility work for Libertine in 2011-12. Output will feed into a prototype construction and testing programme which will culminate in a working development biogas engine in 2013/14.
