Abstract
The research of this PhD project is concerned with gravitational waves, i.e. the ripples in spacetime predicted by Einstein's general relativity and detected by LIGO in 2015. The project aims at the modeling of gravitational wave signals and their characteristic features from various sources as well as the identification of these features in the data taken by the LIGO and Virgo detectors. The specific sources under study are black holes in the environment of dark-matter candidate fields as well as compact stars in modified theories of gravity. The work will involve analytic calculations, computer simulations and the statistical analysis of large data.
