A major recent achievement was the identification of a major quantitative trait locus underlying resistance of Nile tilapia to tilapia lake virus, which can devastate aquaculture systems in low- and middle-income countries (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34262170/). We are working with WorldFish to further understand the basis of resistance and to inform selective breeding strategies to instil resistance into farmed tilapia populations. |
