Development and testing of a hardware and software solution which helps disabled and elderly people to live at home independently

Lead Participant: ETHIOT LIMITED

Abstract

Sofi is an assistive switch that enables disabled and elderly people to live more independently at home.

Sofi allows the external connection of assistive switches to be used with mainstream smart home devices such as those used with Alexa and Siri.

Sofi will be customisable with a phone/tablet app which can set the time intervals between short, long and double clicks.

Examples of assistive switches that can be used include breath operated switches such as a sip and puff device, and large surface area buttons, such as the Buddy button.

By combining these various input methods users of Sofi will be able to set up their own bespoke control system to live in their homes.

This project will see us move from a TRL 6 prototype of the device to a TRL 8, pre-production engineering sample. It will also enable us to develop the first proper version of our configuration app which will be provided alongside Sofi.

We will also get essential user-feedback from potential end-users to make important changes to the solution, and as a means to validate our product to help us raise private investment.

We are an impact-focused business who hope to make the world a healthier, less exclusive place.
