Metallic 3D printing in construction
Lead Research Organisation:
Imperial College London
Department Name: Civil & Environmental Engineering
Abstract
In this project, the use of metallic 3D printed in construction will be explored. The project will involve physical testing of metallic 3D printed components, finite element simulations of 3D printed structures, and some proposals of their design. Within the physical testing, the variability of material properties will be examined, and representative residual stresses and geometric imperfections for different manufacturing processes will be sought. Monitoring data obtained from a real 3D printed structure will be used to evaluate the findings and proposals from the research.
