Abstract
The research is on the development of the new relationships between music, culture and politics in Russia after 1975 (death of Shostakovich), on the changes in the mentality and the style of the composers' work during the last Soviet years and after the collapse of the Soviet Union. This will be the first ever book on the late/post-Soviet period in Russian music/culture.
The main focus is on the music/ideas of the internationally renowned post Shostakovich generation of Russian composers: Alfred Schnittke, Sofia Gubaidulina, Edison Denisov, as well as the younger generation of post-Sovier composers: Vladimir Tarnopolsky, Alexander Raskatov, Vladimir Martynov, Alexander Knaifel, Leonid Desyatnikov, Ivan Sokolov, Olga Rayeva and Pavel Karmanov.
