ELI – Expert Legal Intelligence

GC TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS LIMITED
Abstract
This project is a collaboration between GC Technology Solutions Limited (GCTS), Horwich Farrelly Limited (HF), and The University of Salford (UoS).
It aims to develop a new tool for motor insurance companies. This will use Artificial Intelligence technology to reduce costs, address fraud, and deliver fairer and more affordable insurance for consumers.
This is important because insurance fraud is a growing problem and one that ultimately means that everyone's premium is higher by around £50 (Association of British Insurers) each year. However, preventing fraud currently depends on claims handlers checking every claim. That takes a long time, costs a lot of money, and requires large numbers of qualified staff.
Our innovation will solve these problems. HF is already a sector leader in claims technology. It currently provides services for the UK's largest motor insurers. But our current systems only automate processing for around 5% of claims. More complex claims continue to be manually handled.
To address these challenges, GCTS developed the idea of ELI - an advanced, Large Language Model AI-driven solution. It will revolutionise the way insurance claims are handled, with a particular focus on combating fraud. And because the AI will learn from 10 years of historical claims data, court judgments, and the in-house expertise of HF's 600 lawyers, we are confident that assessments will be accurate and fair
This will benefit consumers by resolving claims fairly, accurately, and quickly and ultimately deliver lower premiums. It will benefit insurers by reducing costs, improving accuracy, and ensuring FCA regulatory compliance.
We have already tested a conceptual prototype of our product with 7 major UK insurers covering 50% of the UK motor insurance market. This testing made it clear that there is a strong demand for our product.
And other sectors could potentially benefit too. The sort of tool we are developing could be modified to help other businesses -- in finance, legal service, and utilities.
But we know it must work accurately and fairly. That is why we are working with leading experts from the University of Salford to check that the AI we develop is rigorously tested to ensure it operates in an ethical way that consumers can trust.
ELI will cut costs for motor insurers and reduce premiums for policyholders across the UK, delivering faster, fairer, and more accurate assessments of insurance claims.
