Abstract

Many thousands of tonnes of old CRT monitor/TV glass is going to landfill because the UK can no longer export it to countries that used to recycle it. CRT glass has a high lead content and is now a priority waste stream under the WEEE directive. Quinn Technology has been working on a process to recycle this glass. Our process is able to recover >90% of lead from the glass, whereas existing processes typically recover ~50%. The process will be more cost, time and energy efficient than current processes that employ high temp. furnaces & smelting. Our aqueous technology will significantly increase extracted value & improve profitability of CRT glass recycling. We aim to exploit directly & also license our technology for de-centralised CRT glass recovery plants located at/close to recycling points. Our technology will allow more efficient recovery, using less energy with lower costs, while reducing transport carbon footprint, enhancing economic & environmental performance of the industry.
