EVALUATION OF THE INFLUENCE OF FOAMING ADDITIVES ON THE PERFORMANCE OF FOAMED ASPHALT MATERIALS

Lead Research Organisation: University of Nottingham
Department Name: Faculty of Engineering

Abstract

It is widely recognized that using foamed asphalt technology for constructing pavements is a sustainable practice. In this technique, various foaming additives are utilized to enhance the foaming characteristics of asphalt binder. However, it has been observed that these foaming additives impact the behavior of the binder after foaming. This can be ascribed to the subsequent physical and chemical interaction between the constituents of binder and additive. The level of this interaction is believed to govern the behavior of the Foamed Asphalt Mixture (FAM). The quantification of this effect, therefore, necessitates a thorough investigation. The proposed research will comprehend and assess the impact of foaming additives on the properties of foamed asphalt and the performance of FAM.
