Abstract
WorkFIT is an online platform designed specifically to support employees of small and medium-sized businesses and the self-employed in the UK to prevent and treat ill health to avoid long-term absences from work.
The platform brings together employees and employers, connecting them with specialist and accredited occupational health providers for preventative health programmes and quick treatment of acute health problems.
The WorkFIT platform leverages advances in technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain smart contracts, telemedicine, and e-prescriptions to offer integrated and affordable occupational health solutions, including provider recommendations, private messaging, chat, and video conferencing with accredited clinicians.
A novel business model also ensures that the WorkFIT platform and the occupational health services it offers are affordable to small and medium-sized businesses and the self-employed, which is currently the primary barrier to access. In addition, employers will benefit from reduced time, cost, and administrative burden of dealing with occupational health issues with the quick identification of the right accredited clinicians; and telemedicine and e-prescription services for their employees to get support quickly and easily. Online processes, roadmaps, and statutory forms will serve as a one-stop digital HR function for occupational health, increasing the confidence of employers to deal with occupational health issues.
The aim of the technology is to increase the health of employees of small and medium-sized businesses and the self-employed to reduce the number of workdays lost in the UK due to ill health, boosting the health, wellbeing, and livelihoods of individuals; increasing productivity and profitability of companies; and decreasing health inequalities and increasing prosperity for the whole of the UK.
The project is led by Top Doctors UK, a leading digital platform connecting patients with accredited doctors across the country. The company has a proven track record of leveraging technology to develop platforms that provide benefits and value to both patients and clinicians, creating a unique and sustainable digital health ecosystem.
The aim of the Phase I project is to work closely alongside employers, employees, and occupational health service providers to shape and develop a design and early prototype of the WorkFIT platform. Phase II of the project will again work closely with key stakeholders to complete the platform ready for commercial launch in January 2025\.
