THE DEPENDENCE OF CORONAL LOOP HEATING ON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF SLOW PHOTOSPHERIC MOTIONS
in The Astrophysical Journal
Description | This studentship is still ongoing and the results mentioned below are preliminary. The heating of the solar corona is one of the unsolved problems of solar physics. One suggestion by Eugene Parker is that the heating of the coronal loops is due to the footprint motion of the magnetic field lines on the solar surface. The student has performed numerical simulations of the governing equations to show that this is indeed a viable mechanism and to quantify the expected energy release (heating) of the corona. The results are being prepared for publication. |
Exploitation Route | Currently the beneficiaries of this research are limited to the scientific community. |
