Development of a disruptive, UK-made baby milk for launch within the U.S. market

Lead Participant: KENDAL NUTRICARE LTD

Abstract

Kendal Nutricare (KNC), a rapid-growth and Queens Award winning British family business, is seeking to disrupt the $40-billion per-year global infant-formula market by developing an innovative, British-made baby-milk that is nutritionally-superior, more naturally and sustainably-made and scientifically closer to the gold-standard of breastmilk.

The prototype recipe (code-name 'Kendamil-Gold'), will be developed using a fundamentally innovative formulation that combines novel, natural ingredients with the KNC teams' 500+ years' cumulative expertise in infant nutrition, to provide infants the most nutritionally-complete, environmentally-sustainable baby-milk in the world. This disruptive formulation will be closer to human-milk by incorporating several breastmilk components linked to cognitive development and strengthened immunity in children.

Development of the Kendamil-Gold prototype will comprise an 18 month project involving 24 KNC team members including R&D technicians, food scientists, quality assurance professionals, laboratory technicians, production engineers and senior management, carried out at KNC's world-class, infant-grade, BRC AA-grade production facilities in Kendal, gateway to the English Lake District, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Successful development of a novel, nutritionally-superior baby-milk is estimated to deliver material export revenue, significant re-investment in British agriculture and new local skilled jobs, demonstrating to industry a more ethical, environmentally-friendly standard of manufacturing while reinforcing British R&D and manufacturing excellence on the global stage.
