Abstract
Will be working on traumatic brain injury (TBI) and subsequent development of neurological disorders and neurodegenerative
diseases. The study of TBI is extremely significant and deeper research into these areas could greatly benefit patients and healthcare communities, improving patient outcome. A key area will be investigation of biomarkers of TBI in patients, including protein markers of neuronal/axonal injury and neuroinflammatory response, as well as small-molecule biomarkers. I will study biomarkers in brain microdialysates in neurocritical care severe TBI patients, also biomarkers in blood in severe and mild TBI patients, both acutely and
chronically post-injury. Project will also investigate production of biomarkers in brain cell cultures under stress model conditions
and explore potential therapeutic agents.
