Increasing the share of renewable energy in future electric power grids through improved voltage control
Lead Research Organisation:
Brunel University London
Department Name: Electronic and Electrical Engineering
Abstract
Accessible electrical energy is one of the most important requirements today. One of the major challenges of power systems control is managing high proportions of inverter-based generation. The proposed re-search will look into characteristics of future electricity networks and consumption trends to develop novel algorithms for voltage control in power networks. Novel methodologies will be developed to mitigate the risks of inverter-based generation and to control voltages in a highly renewable-based energy generation mix.
