Scrap Local - Consumer Resource Management App
Lead Participant:
SCRAP LOCAL LTD
Abstract
Scrap Local is a network of scrap metal dealers and vehicle recyclers that was founded to effortlessly connect producers of metal waste and end of life vehicles to trusted scrap yards locally. Our vision for this project is to disruptively innovate the recycling industry by creating a seamless metal recycling process for consumers, just like Uber and Just Eat have done for taxis and takeaways.
A key objective for the project is to enable consumers to easily engage with a circular economy for metal recycling by creating a new approach towards resource management.
An on-demand collection service will eliminate any friction currently caused when looking to recycle metal waste, making responsible recycling easier to engage with for the average UK household. The use of this service through our app will enable local metal recyclers to make fewer unnecessary journeys when collecting scrap metal and as a result we should see a reduction in the carbon footprint of these businesses, an improvement on current industry practices.
A community of fully licensed scrap metal dealers will provide greater accountability in the reuse of scarce materials and provide consumers with greater confidence when recycling their metal waste. The businesses involved with the project will benefit from optimising their fleet management with the software helping to reduce tailpipe emissions and fuel consumption of vehicles.
As advocates for responsible recycling, we are keen to redefine the supply chain processes in the metal recycling industry as current practices fail to address customer expectations and concerns with scrap metal recycling services.
This project will create a trusted, reliable and convenient approach to metal recycling by creating a seamless customer experience. Through the use of the app, accessible from any device, we aim to give the producers of metal waste the ability to accurately identify metal types, book on-demand collections and connect with licensed metal recyclers in their local area.
