Abstract
This project will develop flexible models for the evaluation of emerging waste-to-energy pathways in a UK context. The objectives of the work are: 1) to quantify environmental impacts of current waste treatment practices in the UK; 2) to evaluate gasification as an emerging opportunity, considering implications of feedstock composition, spatial/temporal availability and costs, and alternative end products; and 3) evaluate hypothetical scenarios indicating the most promising opportunities to deploy waste gasification in UK. This work will integrate substantial existing data on municipal waste flows in UK, supplementing this with detailed data available for other waste streams present in the Nottingham City area, provided by City Council and industry partners (wastecycle)
