An innovative oil spill clean-up product using microbial enzyme treatments that would minimise environmental damage and reduce clean-up costs by 50% or more

Abstract

Polysorb is an established UK oil spill clean-ups SME, accredited to ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 in addition to accredited spill training. The core project team consists of Andrew Brines (project leader), Wendy Brines (quality assurance), Dr Jacky Smith (technical lead) and Patrick Brines (site engineer). Polysorb's aim is to solve a significant unmet need with its eco-friendly alternative to the chemical dispersants used in oil spill clean-ups. Its microbial enzyme treatment causes minimal additional disruption to ecosystems, is simple to use and can be applied using the most appropriate method for the contamination site. It treats the problem at the source, starting the degradation process sooner and reducing the risk of physical disturbance to and destruction of sensitive marine habitats through sediment removal.
