Abstract
In recent years composers have been finding new ways to use speech as musical source material (Barrett, 2009) but synthesised speech as a source for instrumental music is relatively unexplored (Lane, 2006). Taking the sound qualities and structures of synthesised and human speech as a starting point, and writing with a sound palette of instruments and motors, I will develop new compositions using recent analysis tools (Nardelli, 2021) and audio neural networks. Performances and recordings alongside a practice-based thesis will extend the source materials, sound qualities, and musical transformation methods in the contemporary music field.
