Full Human Interaction Capability in Virtual and Augmented Reality

Lead Participant: DIGITAL KINEMATICS LTD

Abstract

Digital Kinematics LTD is developing Plexus, a device that aims to change the way we interact with computers. Plexus is a sensor embedded glove that digitizes users hands for interaction within the immersive mediums: virtual reality; augmented reality; desktop-based, and television. The aim for Plexus is to replace traditional computing input methods - mice, keyboards, controllers - with a more fluid, human-centric mode of interacting with digital content.

The Plexus haptic gloves have been developed with a patent-pending sensor technology that measures the position of every joint in your hand down to 0.01 of a degree. This level of resolution, combined with individual haptic actuators in each fingertip, delivers a sensitive and precise tactile sensation upon every digital interaction.

Made from a flexible elastomer, the gloves will fit a wide range of hand sizes. The gloves are affordably positioned as an accessory to the leading VR head-mounted displays, making them an attractive option for bringing immersive experiences to a wide audience.

Plexus haptic gloves will open up a wide range of opportunities for creating immersive VR and AR experiences. Being able to gesticulate, convey body language, and interact with people within shared virtual environments will enhance gaming and social applications. Within industry and healthcare, giving fine dexterous control will ensure surgical training is more precise, and make more efficient the design, testing, and training in various industries
