MediMusic: using AI for music therapy in care homes

Lead Participant: MEDIMUSIC LTD

Abstract

MediMusic and the world-leading Cambridge Institute for Music Therapy Research at Anglia Ruskin University are working together to develop a machine learning-driven platform for music therapy for clinical pain, anxiety, cognitive impairments, and dementia.

MediMusic is an end-to-end platform that scientifically dispenses music as medicine: creating physiological and psychological health fingerprints for music, auto-creating personalised fingerprinted playlists using machine learning, simplifying engagement via a bespoke MediBeats player and innovative bio-feedback refinement, and providing health and social care professionals with meaningful, cost-saving KPIs.

MediMusic currently only works with Western music. This Creative Catalyst will develop the urgently needed capability to expand the platform to improve access to treatment for ethnic minority patients, initially targeting Indian and Pakistani communities, focusing on dementia within NHS and residential care.

The technical need is to identify the very different musical features and redefine the audio-fingerprinting for therapeutic delivery of Indian and Pakistani music.
